WHAT YOU'RE NOT PAYING FOR

You didn't pay for marketing, so we don't sell you marketing.

DYE

They add blue because blue looks clean. Clean is clean, so we don't dye our product. Plus, that stuff isn't good for the environment.

FRAGRANCE

They add synthetic fragrance so it smells like it's working. Ours just smells clean, not like somebody spilled a vial of laboratory apple all over your stuff.

WATER

There's no way to tell by looking at a bottle whether it's full of cleaner or full of water, so they water it down and hope you don't notice. We only put in enough water to mix and hold our ingredients together. Our blend is 4x more concentrated than the leading brands, so it saves you space and money.

SCRUB, SPRAY OR SOAK

It's a concentrate, so you add the water yourself. A little goes a long way, so start small and add more if you need it.

EASY ON THE EARTH

Most degreasers get their kick from phosphates and a lot of filler, then cover it up with dye and perfume so it looks and smells like it's doing something. We went the other way.

The cleaning in Flimp It! comes from surfactants, the same kind of ingredient that makes soap work. They grab onto grease, pull it off the surface and let the water carry it away. A mild solvent softens up the baked-on stuff so the surfactants can get at it. The surfactants we use are biodegradable, and there are no phosphates in it at all. Phosphates are what feed the algae blooms that choke out lakes and streams, so we left them out.

Everything else in the bottle is simple: a little potash and a cousin of baking soda to keep the pH where it needs to be, and some citrate so hard water doesn't get in the way. And since it's concentrated, you're not paying to truck a jug of water across the country, and one small bottle replaces a lot of plastic spray bottles.

WHAT DOES BIODEGRADABLE MEAN?

It means bacteria in water and soil can eat it. Over a few weeks they break it down into simple things like water, carbon dioxide and minerals, so it doesn't build up in rivers or stick around for years after it goes down your drain.

IT ALL STARTED WITH SOAP

We make lard soap, and that's a greasy, nasty job. Our pots, buckets and molds end up caked in rendered fat, and nothing we bought could cut through it. The stuff on the shelf was mostly water, and the dyes and fragrances in it kept messing with our soap batches. We felt like we were getting scammed, so we made our own. Flimp It! is what we clean our own gear with.
