care guide
this is a natural, handmade soap made with simple ingredients. as such, it comes without the stabilizers that keep synthetic soaps uniform for eternity. it may shrink, expand, change color, and shape as it is used, and that is perfectly normal.
try and keep the soap dry between uses, if left sitting in a puddle all day, it will start to absorb water and soften.

what is soap?
when oils and a strong alkali are combined, pin-shaped soap molecules are formed. the tails of these pins are hydrophobic and avoid water to bond to oils and dirt on your skin. to a germ, the pin end of a soap molecule is a crowbar that wedges itself between your cell membrane, killing you. on the other hand, the head of the pin is attracted to water, which helps to drag all that grime off your skin and down the drain

pro tip: if it doesn't say soap on the front of the package, its not soap. many brands we associate with being soap are not really soap.

about biodegradable soap
soap, in its purest form, is 100% biodegradable. that means that the ingredients that go into making soap and the resulting chemical compounds are broken down and consumed by microorganisms completely within 6 months.
mineral oils, silicones, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and the countless other ingredients commonly added to "soap" to serve as thickeners, solvents, fragrances, or preservatives, will persist and pollute the environment for far beyond a human lifetime, if not indefinitely.
don't get me started on packaging
we avoid all of that by keeping things simple. lard+coffee+lye in a paper sleeve. 100% biodegradable.
